What To Do For Arthritis?

If you are looking for information about what to do for arthritis? then you are in the right place.

The term ‘arthritis’ in often used to refer to a variety of conditions in which arthritis plays a principle role, instead of to a single specific condition. Within this group there are two conditions which are particularly well known and these are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Osteoarthritis is the most frequently seen form of arthritis and is characterized by a break down of the cartilage within the joints exposing the ends of adjoining bones so that they rub against each other with painful results. This pain, as well as an accompanying stiffness, a reduction in movement and occasionally inflammation can severely reduce your quality of life. Osteoarthritis is frequently seen in the spine, ankles, knees and hips although it can also frequently be found in the fingers. While there may be some basis of heredity in osteoarthritis, it is most commonly the result of some form ofimpact or a metabolic condition. Today, obesity also plays a growing role in the onset of osteoarthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis is the second commonest form of arthritis and is evidenced when the immune system begins to attack the body. The condition starts with swelling within the lining of the joints which then moves on into both the cartilage and the bone. It is normal for rheumatoid arthritis to be found in the same joint on either side of the body (for example, both elbows) in which case it is referred to as being ‘symmetrical’.

Before proceeding take a second to consider a few of the many kinds of arthritis before looking more closely at what to do for arthritis?.

Amongst those conditions which are considered to be primarily arthritis are:

Juvenile Arthritis. When arthritis is seen in a child before 16 years of age it is quite often referred to as ‘juvenile arthritis’. There are a variety of different kinds of juvenile arthritis but the commonest is juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) which causes swelling or pain in the shoulders, elbows, knees, toes and ankles. It is quite often seen with chills, a fever which comes and goes and occasionally a body rash. We have little idea what causes

Juvenile Arthritis.

Gonococcal Arthritis. Gonococcal arthritis is the most common of the infectious kinds of arthritis and is caused by the gonococci bacterium, which also gives rise to gonorrhoea. As well as pain, which can often move between the different joints of the body, this kind of arthritis also exhibits small blisters which can be present on many parts of your skin.

There are also various conditions where arthritis is not the main element but it is nevertheless a main contributory factor. These include:

Reactive Arthritis. Like its name suggests, this type of arthritis appears as a reaction to either an infection of the intestine or a STD. It is normal for reactive arthritis to appear alongside both conjunctivitis and urethritis.

Arthritis has a minor part in various medical conditions including:

Raynaud’s Disease. Both stress and exposure to cold weather can lead to Raynaud’s disease which produces discoloration, burning, tingling and pain in the fingers and toes. There is also a second and more serious form of Raynaud’s disease, called Raynaud’s phenomenon, which is frequently seen together with scleroderma or lupus.

Finally, before moving on to consider what to do for arthritis? we should also have a look at a couple of suggestions to help in coping with arthritis.

Try to conserve your energy by looking for shortcuts.

Make sure you get a sound night’s sleep by getting a little exercise every day, as long as it is not too close to bedtime.

Adapt your house to make your life simpler by getting a phone with large keys to make dialing simpler.

Make cleaning simpler by using an extra-long extension cord on the vacuum cleaner so that you do not need to continually bend over to unplug the vacuum and then plug it in again.
